BBC News have a feature today about the 3Rs (Replacement, Refinement and Reduction, see A Renewed Debate, SimBlog April 29th) with a short introduction to computer modelling by Denis Noble of Oxford University's Cardiac Electrophysiology Group. According to Professor Noble, computer models such as his group's complete heart model are sufficiently advanced to replace some of the very early stages in a project's animal experimentation. Denis Noble is a member of the heart physiome team, which is a part of the Physiome Project, the ambitious effort to build a multiscale model of the human body.
